Position Description: 

Reporting to the Financial Risk Management Director, the Insurance Analyst is an integral member of the Finance Team, pivotal in the management of financial risk management and insurance strategies. Responsibilities include collecting, compiling and performing basic analysis and reporting using financial and insurance risk management techniques. The Insurance Analyst maximizes opportunity and minimizes risk related to cash, assets, supply chain, employees, and other insurable items through commitment to quality execution of treasury processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain financial risk management governance regarding insurable exposures to minimize volatility in financial performance
  • Develop a structure to monitor financial risk exposure and leading indicators of financial volatility to support and create relevant reporting on executive and Board dashboards.   
  • Develop policies and KPIs related to insurable risks and develop and monitor trigger thresholds on those KPIs.
  • Develop and maintain insurance and reinsurance coverage strategy.
  • Review and negotiate insurance policies, including renewals, and manage relationships with third-parties.
  • Identify insurance issues and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Update the Enterprise Risk Management Steering Committee and Board of Directors insight by providing relevant information regarding financial risk management strategies and exposures.
  • Continuously evaluate current insurance risk management strategies for ongoing effectiveness and changes in the macroeconomic environment.
  • Evaluate potential risk management and insurance solutions, develop strategic partnerships with strategic partners, and execute those solutions.
  • Provide compliance and accounting support for capital markets solutions.
  • Participate in ongoing daily surveillance of market and industry events, industry trends, and macroeconomic trends. 

Process Improvement Management

  • Identify and assist in streamlining areas of improvement and document all procedures.

  • Experience: 2 years related work experience in financial risk management and insurance


  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Finance, Accounting, or related area)
  • Experience: 3 years of Treasury, Insurance, or Finance experience; Oracle R12
  • Certifications: Professional Certification such as CTP (Certified Treasury Professional) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)

  • Financial Planning
    • Review budgets for accuracy and process efficiency related to insurance.
    • Monitor the departmental budgeting processes to ensure each department is on track for submission and operating in a manner that will achieve the set financial goals.
    • Assess inconsistencies in the actual and budgeted spending and identify proactive programs to prevent them. 
    • Review budget spending patterns to support financial insurance forecasting and the development of projected financial statements, related to the budgeted revenue and cost targets. 
  • Data Analysis
    • Demonstrate a good understanding of metrics and data.
    • Identify appropriate metrics to assess initiatives.
    • Explain the rationale behind the collection and use of metrics.
    • Leverage existing tools to meet organizational needs.
    • Draw insightful conclusions, identifies trends, and recognizes patterns through data analysis and collection.
    • Connect insights generated from multiple data points to provide insightful recommendations.
  • Management Accounting
    • Evaluate the insurable risk of the organization, as well as the impact of changes to the organization's supply chain and the impact that leveraging different strategies will have on the organization's profitability.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of management accounting systems.
    • Perform analyses on internal key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Deliver high-quality, accurate, and complete management reporting information.
    • Participate in analyzing competitors' financial information, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, in comparison to the organization's.
  • Organizational Finance Policies Compliance and Maintenance
    • Assist in the continuous development of the organization's policies.
    • Analyze the impact of changes to organizational finance policies.
    • Encourage others to comply with all organizational regulations, policies, and processes.
  • Internal Control
    • Demonstrate a general understanding of the control systems the organization has in place to internally control financial operations.
    • Recommend productive and practical updates and modifications to the organization's control policies and procedures.
  • Finance:
    • Analyze and identify opportunities for investing in insurance and reinsurance tools to reduce insurable risk.
    • Make advanced treasury management decisions.
    • Identify areas of opportunity or barriers for the organization's financing initiatives and insurance risk management by conducting a short-term (1-6 months) environmental scan. 
    • Escalate and analyze requests from businesses who want to merge or acquire the organization.
    • Apply basic knowledge of business, insurance, and asset valuation techniques to address valuations.
    • Assist in the development of risk management policies for the organization
