Position Description: 

The Director of Retail Innovation (DRI) is responsible for the effective development, launch and management of new retail initiatives to support ATD’s aligned customer base. This role will own the strategic, financial and go-to-market planning processes to successfully execute these retail initiatives. When these initiatives are enabled through a franchise approach, the DRI will work with key internal and external partners to develop the selling materials and associated franchise disclosure documents. In the near term, the DRI will develop the plan to enable a mobile installation platform through ATD’s aligned customer base. This individual will also recommend the organizational structure required to successfully launch and manage the strategic retail initiatives across the identified markets. The DRI will work closely with the ATD digital marketing team to develop the plans necessary to drive consumer awareness, traffic to and conversion on digital assets tied to innovation initiatives. In this highly visible role, the DRI will represent the retail innovation business unit within the company and present at an executive level.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop, launch and manage new retail initiatives to support and enable ATD’s aligned customers. Use data gathering, critical thinking and fact driven recommendations to obtain Senior Leadership approval to launch new retail initiatives. Identify and solve day-to-day operational and business challenges. Establish and manage a P&L for all approved retail initiatives.  Develop go-to-market strategy and operating procedures for ATD’s strategic retail initiatives to support ATD’s aligned customer base. Develop and maintain business process documentation. Develop selling strategies to drive both consumer and fleet business to ATD’s aligned customer base through retail innovation initiatives. Develop franchise plans and selling materials associated with retail innovation initiatives. Conduct fact-based assessments to identify prospective markets and aligned customers for all retail initiatives. Collaborate with ATD’s aligned retail partners with a focus on ATD’s franchise network. Develop and communicate digital product roadmap and secure business wide consensus on the overall strategy and implementation of digital solutions and support.  Develop marketing plans to effectively drive traffic to digital assets and convert to purchase once consumers land on retail innovation site(s). Work closely with FP&A team to conduct financial reviews and analyses to quantitatively measure success of retail innovation pilots and in-market initiatives. Engage and collaborate with business leaders to understand both company and functional goals to ensure alignment of retail innovation initiatives.  Supervise and manage any direct or indirect reports assigned to retail innovation team.  Provide leadership, motivation and direction to all internal and external stakeholders that are involved in retail innovation initiatives.

Experience(s) that Best Prepares You:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years franchise development and/or new business development experience
    • Previous experience within automotive or tire industry preferred, but not required
    • New business start-up experience preferred, but not required

Physical Demands/Work Environment/Travel Requirements:

  • Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, taste and/or smell; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Travel required:  +/- 75% of the time, with travel throughout the US and possibly Canada, which will require overnight stays.  Travel could include both automobile and air travel.  Travel to the Field Support Centers, vendor locations, and other destinations will be required.
