Position Description: 

The primary responsibility of the Customs and Trade Compliance Manager is to manage import/export operations, customs and trade compliance for ATD and its affiliate businesses. Responsible for US Customs entry and supports the development of ATD’s customs and trade compliance program and infrastructure. Subject matter expert on import/export processes, customs and trade compliance, HTS item classification, tariff/duty exposure, valuation, recordkeeping, and reporting. Scope of responsibility includes customs broker relationship management, driving reduction of customs cost, risk mitigation, and international trade market intelligence.

Primary Responsibilities:                                                          

  • Supplier Relationship Management, customs brokerage
  • Single Point of Contact for daily execution of Import/Export, Customs and Trade Compliance matters.
  • Manages Customs Broker and supports access across the organization as needed
  • Supports Indirect Sourcing Team in defining sourcing criteria for Customs
  • Brokerage, key participant in RFP processes as needed.
  • Manages/Lead effort as needed to identify errors and process Post Entry
  • Amendment/Post Summary Corrections as needed to resolve.
  • Responsible for development, integration and management of Standard Operational Procedures
  • Maintenance of master product classification matrix
  • Development and tracking against Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements
  • Partner with Import Logistics Manager in managing interface between Custom Broker, Carriers or Forwarder and Product Suppliers
  • Optimize communication and timely handling of inbound/outbound shipments.
  • Ensure content of Packing List, Commercial Invoice provides required information accurately.
  • Compliance Management, subject matter expert for Trade Compliance, Customs Duty/Bonds, Marine Cargo Insurance, etc.
  • Ensures proper product classification for imports, Partnering with Product Directors, Suppliers and Customs Broker
  • Supports the development of ATD’s customs and trade compliance program, including:
  • Development and implementation of a trade compliance manual
  • Management of record retention
  • Exploration of compliance certifications CTPAT, ISA, etc.
  • Manages/leads efforts to support customs audits as necessary (internal/compliance based) or as required by US CBP.
  • Liaison between US CBP and the business
  • Supports the evaluation and development of Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) facilities within ATD’s Supply Chain Network.
  • Market Intelligence
  • Monitors Market/Trade activity & reports on potential disruptions or changes in Trade Conditions.                                                                       
  • Holds Broker responsible to achieve ATD’s compliance standards and SOP
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate the organization to lead daily execution and support the broader development of a Trade Compliance program.
  • Commitment to tasks and goals set forth by management team.

Experience(s) that Best Prepares You:                                  

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree preferred or 5 years of experience in import/export, customs/trade compliance and/or international logistics.
  • Experience: Computer literacy is required, including proficiency with MS Office applications.
